SATURDAY & SUNDAY, JANUARY 19TH & 20TH

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to our 17 Black Team Page. I will do my best to post after each tourney the stats and give an over view of how we did! We began this season at the Cal Kick-Off!  Myself, the team members and all of you had an extremely emotional week with the passing of our friend & volleyball family member Natalie Corona. We did our best to weather the emotions and struggles everyone was facing to fight and play in her honor.Day 1 we lost to Diamonds VBC, we were plagued with errors and we didn’t play to our abilities. We then woke up a bit and finished the day winning the next two matches to PRVC & PV Jrs. We managed to keep our starting seed which was 17th.

Day 2 we had to face the current #1 seed UC Elite, we started strong taking the first set 25-13, and then fell short losing the next 2 sets 26-28, 14-16. This game frustrated me as a coach. We self destructed. We were not moving our feet, we didn’t communicate on any end of the game (we had 3 balls drop due to miscommunication with setter/hitter) , missed serves, hitting balls out of bounds. Again we regrouped and managed to beat Bay Area Rev & Mid Cal Xtreme to win our bracket and finish 15th over all.

I stand firm in my belief that THIS TEAM was capable of beating the two teams they lost too. But in looking back on the weekend as a whole, going 4-2 overall and those two loses being to the 1st place (Diamonds) and the 3rd place (UC Elite), dealing with the emotions of Natalie, the frustration of Katie going our with a ankle injury and the fact that these girls showed up and played through all of that….I am proud of them.

I know I am a hard coach, I know that I push them, I know that it’s hard sometimes. But everything I do, is coming from a good place and I want them to be better. They will never know their true limits unless they are pushed to those limits. I will continue to push them and demand more of them because they are capable and they prove that to me week in and week out! I want their greatness to show, I refuse for any of them to set for mediocrity!

In closing I wanted to give a couple kudos to a few ladies that were working hard to make things happen throughout the weekend! Lexi lead the way with kills and blocks and it didn’t matter what position I played her, she was dominating!

Katie went out with a ankle injury but she was on her way to a fabulous tourney! She too was playing multiple positions with a smile she was grinding and doing the best of her ability!

And finally Alli, she was a solid force in the back row. She was a solid passer and had some great defensive plays. I was happy with what was displayed by these 3 ladies!  Good Job Ladies! See you this weekend!

See you this weekend!

~Kim

SUNDAY, JANUARY 27TH: PIERCE HIGH SCHOOL

Hello,

I am so HaPpY we were able to host at home! Thank you to everyone for helping make that possible. This was such a fun day of volleyball.

The competition in the A.M. was not very scoring, but I was so proud of these girls for playing their level of volleyball and not dropping to their opponents play. In the morning we beat North Valley Jrs 25-12, 25-2 and Rocklin 25-13, 25-6.

Then after a nice lunch break and some chit chatting about the dance :) we played Synergy Force, defeating them 25-14,25-9. Which lead us to our club mates Dynamix 18 Black. Its always hard to play your fellow club mates because their your friends, but it is a game and we played to win taking the match 25-16, 25-10. We won our bracket and kept our seed of 4th in the Qualifier!

I want to recognize Ashlyn for her play today. she was making corrections and had a solid day of volleyball. She has been a great addition to our team.

Betsy was serving like a beast....12 aces in 4 matches!

Also I want to give Abby kudos! She was serving well and her placement of the ball was awesome she had a .462% hitting for the day!

It was a FuN DaY and we are looking forward to Presidents Day Tourney next month!

 Bye,
~Kim

FEBRUARY 16-18TH: SAN JOSE CONVENTION CENTER

Wow what a fun filled 3 days of Volleyball! We played competitive all weekend long. We entered the Tourney Day 1 being seeded 25th. We played 3 matches finishing the day 2-1 overall and claiming the 8thseed. Overall we played consistent on day 1. We faced Synergy Gold winning a battle 25-23,23-25,15-12. Lexi was a standout for us during this match. She was strong at the net on offense and defense. Then we faced UC Elite and fell short losing 21-25,25-16,7-15. Abby and Noemi did their best to push us towards a win. Abby was placing the ball well. And Noe was solid at passing. It just wasn’t an enough. We immediately played Galaxy and took the Win 25-13,25-13. Ashlyn had a solid hitting game and made adjustments on defense. Ali was serving well for us this match. Our team bonding was a video / picture challenge. It was quite entertaining….Our winners were Noemi, Sierra & Katie!

Day 2 we were able to keep our 8th seed with some tough fought matches. We played Aftershock winning 25-13,25-21 Emily was good in the front for us this game; she was putting the ball away. We then faced Xplosion and it was a hard fought match, they were extremely deceiving and we underestimated them. We did pull the Win. Halle did an awesome job bringing us back in a must win 3rd set, we were down 10-12, Halle served and played steady defense in the back row to bring us to a 15-12 3rd set WIN! Sierra has a great match also. Her serving was on point and her placement of the ball was distributed well. Finally we played Diamonds and fell to them 21-25, 22-25. Although we lost our improvement against them from the first time we played them (at Cal Kick Off) was such an improvement. We lost Lexi in the first 2pts of the game, due to an ankle sprain. (I think the outcome would have been different had we had her play at the net). But Katie did a good job keeping us going at the middle position. She was strong and effective. Emily had strong serves. Ali was moving to the ball well and her receptions were good. Our team bonding today was “quote exchange” it could be any quotes or verse didn’t have to be sports related and it was a huge success and something different!

Day 3 another competitive day of Volleyball! J We began our day with a play-in match. We played Siskiyou Storm we won 25-14,25-17. Keeping our 8 seed. We immediately played the 9 seed PRVA Tornado and beat them 25-12,25-15. Abby did a phenomal job at placing the ball during this match. Betsy got on a serve stretch and recorded 6 aces this match. We then had to play the #1 seed Main Beach. We started out flat, but with Emily’s awesome serving we got back in the game. We won 28-26,25-12. Betsy’s defense play kept us going. She was all over the court digging balls and covering her teammates. Her communication to her OHs helping with placement of the ball. We then immediately had to play the #4 seed SPVC Power. Playing 3 competitive matches back to back to back proved to be too much for us. We fell short losing 18-25,25-19. We couldn’t seem to get anything going. Emily & Sierra was serving well. Betsy was defending. But we couldn’t find a consistent offense during this match. We finished the Presidents Day Tourney in 3rd place overall.

Wow what a weekend! I am so proud of the growth these girls have shown in 1 month. We still have work to do. But it’s starting to happen. They now see the changes that need to be made; we just have to figure out together how to make those changes happen quicker, so that we don’t allow teams to stay with us. We need to make the adjustments and push through the game.

SUNDAY, MARCH 31ST: PIERCE HIGH SCHOOL

We were able to host our tourney again in Arbuckle. It is so nice to be home.  It brings out family and friends to enjoy the gym and support our club. Thank you to all our parents for their effort and energy to keep these tourneys local.  It couldn’t happen without you and we are appreciative!

Volleyball was good. We took first in our pool. Defeating North Valley Jrs 25-13, 25-7 and FPVC 25-16, 25-9. We then played FPVC Anthony 25-20, 25-20 to go Into the Championship against  Samba again. Our passing was a struggle all day.  And it was very apparent in the final match. We need to work harder at getting  a perfect pass to target, instead of settling for a average pass. It’s the difference between a well executed offense and a mediocre offense. We fell short losing to Samba 24-26, 19-25.

There was a couple players that I wanted to recognize for their effort and ability throughout the day. First Abby, she played the entire day and was effective with placement of the ball, but the best performance from her was her serving she has a killer float serve going right now and our opponents had a hard time passing her. Lexi had a dominating day at the net. Lexi has been working hard to put the ball away on first attempt. Her main focus today was her blocking she had some clutch blocks that gave us the edge. And finally Katie, she has been put into a new position the past couple of weeks but you wouldn’t know if you were watching, her timing on blocks and awareness of the court looks flawless. But her leadership within the team is defiantly helpful and a huge asset for the whole team, communication is key!

Looking forward to a quick week, see you this weekend!

SATURDAY, APRIL 6TH: PIERCE HIGH SCHOOL

Once again we hosted in Arbuckle. It is always fun for us! We have spent the last week working on the speed of our offense. We have incorporated a faster paced offense. In doing this we were unsure how our tourney would play out, as we had to succumb to the possibility of giving up points due to errors in trying to make our offense better. But to our surprise there actually wasn’t that many points we gave away.

We took first in our pool. Defeating Rocklin VBC 25-8, 25-16, and FPVC Dina 25-20, 25-14. We then played SPVC Molly and won 25-16, 25-17 to go into the Championship against Samba AGAIN. We played well and played consistent and took 1st place in a 25-17, 25-16 victory. I want to give a special recognition to our setters Sierra & Emily who worked hard to get that ball to our hitters quickly.

Today I want to recognize Betsy and Noemi for their efforts on passing and defense. They both focused on getting that perfect pass to the setters, and it made a huge difference In our ability to work on our faster pace hitting. And Halle I want to recognize your hitting, you have been working hard at getting your body position correct, keeping the ball in front and it defiantly showed today. You were hammering the ball, one time off the opponents face on a line shot, she never even saw it coming….wow!  Smores’ Cookies for the team!

Looking on this season as a whole to date I am proud of this team. We do not have massive competition daily, but this group is understanding  that we need to be determined to get better each point. We are playing to our ability and not lowering our play. We need to continue to push ourselves to be better players, we need to communicate within our team. We also need to listen and learn from coaches, and apply the actions and know that

it is for the greater of this team. I am so excited for Far Westerns, I cannot wait to see the progress in those 3 days of play. Should be FUN!
